North Korea: A Day in the Life
This movie's cityscapes and patriotic songs are a far cry from the bleak landscape of Seoul Train, and that's no accident. This propaganda film was made by Dutch filmmaker Pieter Fleury with the full permission and cooperation of the North Korean government. It shows a day in the life of one of the world's most mysterious societies. A Day in the Life is mostly told by the North Korean film bureau. It shows a typical North Korean family going about their daily lives, with a focus on the pride of the North Korean nation of comrades and the glory of General Kim Jong Il. The film is meant to show how successful modern North Korea is. But does it? With just footage and no narration, Fleury's film may be seen in a slightly different way than he intended.
