Without Anesthesia
A well-known Polish journalist creates a dilemma for the powers-that-be when he exhibits his complete political ability and expertise on a television show featuring questions and answers from a panel of journalists about a world conference. When he is absent, his adversaries revoke his privileges. The shock of being "unwanted" reflects a more serious disappointment in his personal life: his wife is having an affair with a jealous young rival and is seeking a divorce after 15 years of marriage and two daughters. She makes no explanations while he attempts to resolve these issues on his own. Every move he makes is incorrect. He engages in heavy drinking with students anxious to attend his seminar following the class's cancellation. The previously sophisticated and dominating journalist is reduced to quiet.
