American Revolution 2
The second installment of the American Revolution series starts off with archival footage of political protests that took place at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, as well as the aggressive response of the Chicago Police Department and the National Guard. In order to investigate why there were so few African Americans present at the demonstrations, the filmmakers accompany members of the Chicago branch of the Black Panther Party as they attempt to find common ground with a number of other white activist groups. In one of the scenes, Panther Bobby Lee and members of the Young Patriots, a community of white Appalachian activists who live in the Uptown section of Chicago, stage a protest against police brutality. The seemingly unrelated groups discover that they have similar social and political goals, which allow them to look past their racial differences and work together to address issues like as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate living circumstances. This lovely but unfulfilled goal of a cross-racial and interethnic political movement is the film's underlying theme, but it never comes to fruition.
