California

An escaped Union soldier is released from jail and embarks on a journey with a fellow prisoner to Missouri, where his traveling partner is shot and hanged for horse stealing at the conclusion of the American Civil War. California chooses to move the remains of his comrade to his family's ranch, where he meets and falls in love with the sister of his friend. In the meantime, the "ghosts" of the war resurface in an unexpected manner, tormenting him once more..
