Mavis Arden, sometimes known as Mae West, is a phenomenal Hollywood actress. Her fanbase is spread around the globe, and the fact that she tours for personal appearances is evidence of her popularity. Arden's car decides to give out while she is driving home from one of her appearances. She is suspicious that he engineered the break down in communication to keep her away from a man, so she gives her publicity man, Warren William, the order to locate a location for her to stay. However, she quickly finds herself developing feelings for a charming local repairman (Randolph Scott) and listening to his thoughts on the development of filmmaking equipment.
