Larceny
It is John Payne, the lowlife scoundrel who tries to make a buck off of people's feelings of patriotism and loss in the wake of World War II. He cons a war widow (Joan Caulfied) into spending her life savings on a memorial that doesn't exist. Payne's guilt starts to gnaw at him as he falls for the widow, but he doesn't count on his con-artist employer (Dan Duryea), who backs up his arguments with muscle and bullets.
