When he dreams of vengeance, a traumatized young man who has been beaten by his father imagines himself as Adolf Hitler. Schlingensief's picture, which has no linear narrative framework, was published at a time when right-leaning German intellectuals pushed for a reckoning with the country's Nazi past.
