The Reluctant Debutante
Welcoming Jimmy and Sheila Broadbent to London Jane, Jimmy's seventeen-year-old daughter. Jane is a descendant of Jimmy's first marriage to an American, and she has traveled to see her father and a stepmother she has never met. While she is in town, Sheila comes up with the notion of making Jane a debutante, which Jane strongly opposes. Difficulties include Jane's apathy toward being put on the marriage market, Sheila's cousin Mabel Claremont's determined efforts to secure wealthy David Fenner for her debutante daughter Clarissa, and Jane's attraction to David Parkson, an American drummer who plays in the orchestra at the coming-out balls.
