The Spirit of the Beehive
In the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, Ana, a sensitive seven-year-old girl in a rural Spanish hamlet is traumatized after having a travel projectionist screens a print of James Whale's 1931"Frankenstein" for the village. The child is intensely disturbed by the scenes in which the small girl is murdered by the monster and can be murdered himself by the villagers. She questions her sister and thinks her older sibling when she informs her that the monster is not dead, but is as a spirit inhabiting a nearby barn. Ana strikes from reality, when a fugitive from Franco's victorious army, a Loyalist soldier, hides from the barn.
