The Square
The Square, a new film by Jehane Noujaim (Controlroom. Rafea: Solar Mama), discusses the hard realities confronted daily by people attempting to build Egypt's new democracy. Catapulting us into the action spread across 2012 and 2011, the film gives a visceral experience of this struggle. Cairo's Tahrir Square is the center and soul of the movie, which follows a couple activists. Equipped with plenty of media that is social, decision, humor, music, values, and sheer obstinacy, they are aware that the road to democracy began with Hosni Mubarek's collapse. The life and death struggle between this state's power and the people is playing outside.
