There Are No Fakes
This is how it works: Norval Morrisseau was the first Indigenous Canadian artist to be taken very seriously in art. This is how it looked when he worked at the turn of the century. His work was worth thousands of dollars. Because keyboardist Kevin Hearn learned that his favorite painting was a fake, he sued. Jamie Kastner's documentary shows that there was a small business making fake Morrisseaus. This business thrived for years on greed, exploitation, racism, and contempt.
