The film chronicles the history, ideology, and aesthetics of Norwegian black metal-a musical subculture notable for a string of murders and church arsons as well as for its distinctive musical and visual aesthetics. This is the first (and only) film to shed true light on a movement that has previously been veiled in mystery and rumor and overshadowed by erroneous and superficial portrayals.
