Cheers is an American sitcom television series that ran for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993. It had been produced by Charles/Burrows/Charles Productions in association with Paramount Network Television for NBC and made by the group of Glen Charles, James Burrows, and Les Charles. The series is set at a pub named Cheers at Boston, Massachusetts, by which a group of sailors meet to drink, relax, and interact. The show's theme song, written and played by Gary Portnoy, also co-written using Judy Hart Angelo, given its famous refrain,"Where Everybody Knows Your Name", since the show's tag line. As it ranked last in ratings for the premiere, after premiering on September 30, 1982, it had been ended throughout its first season. Cheers, but eventually turned into a highly rated television series in the United States, earning a rating throughout 8 of its 11 seasons, including 1 season at number 1. The series spent the majority of its run on NBC's Thursday night"Must See TV" line up. Its series finale was aired on May 20, 1993, and also the show's 275 episodes have been successfully syndicated global. Nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series for several eleven of its seasons on the air, it's earned 28 Emmy Awards from the 117 nominations. The personality Frasier Crane was featured in his eponymous spin-off series, which aired up until 2004 and added guest appearances.
