Cosmos: A Personal Voyage is a thirteen-part television series created by Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and Steven Soter, and hosted by Sagan. Adrian Malone executive produced, David Kennard, Geoffrey Haines-Stiles, and Gregory Andorfer produced, and the producers, David Oyster, Richard Wells, Tom Weidlinger, and others directed. It addressed a wide range of scientific topics, such as the genesis of life and our place in the universe. The series debuted on the Public Broadcasting Service in 1980 and was the most-watched series in American public television history until The Civil War. It was still the most popular PBS series in the world in 2009. It earned an Emmy and a Peabody Award and has since been seen by over 500 million people in more than 60 countries. The series was also accompanied by a book.
