Daniel Deronda
Andrew Davies adapted the novel Daniel Deronda by George Eliot into a British television serial drama called Daniel Deronda. Directed by Tom Hooper and produced by Louis Marks, the three-part series debuted on BBC One from 23 November to 7 December 2002. Hugh Dancy portrayed Daniel Deronda, Romola Garai portrayed Gwendolen Harleth, Hugh Bonneville portrayed Henleigh Grandcourt, and Jodhi May portrayed Mirah Lapidoloth. WGBH Boston provided co-production funds. After a protracted and failed casting procedure, Louis Marks abandoned his plan to convert the novel into a film and subsequently abandoned the project. The television adaptation of the drama took an additional five years. From May through August, eleven weeks were spent filming in England, Scotland, and Malta. The series was Marks' last television project prior to his passing in 2010.
