Degrassi Junior High
As a part of the Degrassi franchise, the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi Junior High aired on CBC Television from 1987 through 1989. The show ran for three seasons. The show followed the lives of a group of kids who attended the fictional school with the same name as the show. The series was praised for its sympathetic and realistic representation of the issues that teenagers face in their daily lives, and many of the episodes dealt with sensitive subjects such as substance addiction, child abuse, adolescent pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce. The majority of the actors in the show were not professional performers, which lent an air of authenticity to the production. Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and many others were among the many actors who had previously portrayed roles on The Kids of Degrassi Street a few years before to the production of this series. However, since their character identities and the circumstances of their families had been changed, Degrassi Junior High cannot be considered a direct spinoff of the original series. Stephen Stohn, who would go on to become the executive producer of Degrassi: The Next Generation, served as the legal counsel for each and every episode of the show. The vacant Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario served as the setting for the filming of the series.
