Dexter's Laboratory
Genndy Tartakovsky's animated children's television series Dexter's Laboratory is an American comic science fiction series for Cartoon Network. Dexter, a young genius with a secret laboratory full of his inventions, is the protagonist of the series. He is always at odds with his sister Dee Dee, who always manages to gain entry despite his best attempts, and his arch-rival and neighbor Mandark. Dial M for Monkey, about Dexter's pet lab monkey-turned-superhero, and The Justice Friends, about a trio of superheroes who share an apartment, are two more episodes from the first two seasons of the series. Tartakovsky based the series on student films he produced while attending the California Institute of the Arts, and submitted it to Hanna-animated Barbera's shorts showcase World Premiere Toons. In 1995 and1996, four shorts were made and broadcast on Cartoon Network before the network ordered a 13-episode first season, which began on April28,1996, based on viewer approval ratings. Tartakovsky left the series in 1999 after 52 episodes and a television feature were completed, and he went on to work on Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars. The series was relaunched in 2001 by Cartoon Network Studios under a new production crew, and after 26 more episodes, it was cancelled on November20, 2003.
