Linebarrels of Iron
The Japanese manga artists Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi made the Linebarrels of Iron series. The series was first published in 2005 in Champion Red, a monthly shnen manga magazine published by Akita Shoten. As of November 20, 2008, it has been put into eleven tankbon. The main character of the story is Kouichi Hayase, a fourteen-year-old boy who lives a normal life until an accident turns him into the pilot of a huge robot called "Linebarrel" and brings him into contact with a mysterious girl. In the February issue of Animage magazine, it was said that the manga series would be turned into an anime. Masamitsu Hidaka is in charge of the anime, and Gonzo is in charge of the animation. Even though the world premiere of the first episode was at the 2008 Anime Expo in Southern California, the series premiered in Japan on October 3, 2008, on the TBS television network. There were a total of twenty-four episodes of the anime, and the last one aired on March 20, 2009. To celebrate the anime version of the series, Shimizu and Shimoguchi decided to make a one-shot manga that retells the entire first episode of the anime. The plot of the first episode of the anime is very different from the first chapter of the manga.
