Princess Ja Myung
Jung Ryeo-won, Park Min-young, and Jung Kyung-ho feature in Ja Myung Go, a 2009 South Korean historical drama. It aired on SBS from March 9 to July21,2009, on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 for 39 episodes. It is based on the Korean folk tale Prince Hodong and the Princess of Nakrang, which touches on the subject of the failed Nakrang Kingdom. According to the legend, there was a famous drum called the jamyeonggo, meaning "the drum that beats by itself," that possessed the inexplicable power to automatically raise an alert if attackers invaded its territory. The self-sounding drum caused neighboring nations, particularly the warrior state of Goguryeo, to reconsider assaulting Nakrang. Hodong, a Goguryeo prince, infiltrated Nakrang with the goal of destroying the drum. However, the prince suddenly fell in love with the princess of Nakrang. For her love, the princess eventually opted to pull off the drum and betray her nation. As a result, her country was destroyed, and she was murdered. Prince Hodong wept over her death, hugging her body. The drama series, on the other hand, adds a novel twist by making the drum a person, embodied by Ja-myung, the hidden sister of the Nakrang Kingdom's princess. Ra-hee is adored by her people as the princess of Nakrang, whereas Ja-myung survives a murder attempt and lives as a commoner. Prince Hodong of Nakrang's adversary, the Goguryeo Kingdom, is split between two nations and two women, and must choose between love and responsibility.
