The Day Today
The Day Today is a parody of television current affairs programmes, broadcast in 1994, and developed by the comedians Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris. It is a version of the air programme On the Hour, that was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 between 1992 and 1991. Was written by Morris, Iannucci, Steven Wells, David Quantick, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Andrew Glover, and the cast. For the Afternoon Today, Peter Baynham combined the writing team, and Herring and Lee were replaced by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews. Today, the main cast of On the Hour was retained for the Afternoon.
The Day Today is consists of six half-dozen episodes and also a selection of shorter slots listed as pro motion trailers to the segments. The six half-dozen episodes were broadcast to 23 February 1994 on BBC2. The Day Today has won many awards, including Morris winning the 1994 British Comedy Award for Best Newcomer. All six episodes are on BBC DVD, using previously been issued on VHS.
