The Red Tent
Her name is Dinah. During a short and violent detour within the more familiar chapters about her father, Jacob, and his dozen sons her life is only hinted in the Bible in the Book of Genesis. Told through Dinah's eloquent voice, the miniseries shows the traditions and turmoil of ancient womanhood. Dinah's tale starts with the narrative of her mothers: Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah, Jacob's four wives. They love Dinah and give her gifts that are to sustain her through a hard working childhood, a calling to midwifery, and a brand new house in a foreign land. We are told by dinah of the red tent, where women were sequestered during their cycles of birthing, menses, and illness' planet. Of her initiations into the techniques of her tribe.
