The Ren & Stimpy Show
Created by Canadian-born animator John Kricfalusi, the show is known by the characters' initials, Ren & Stimpy. Rugrats and Doug joined the show on Nickelodeon's Nicktoons block for its premiere on August 11, 1991. Characters Ren Höek and Stimpson J. Cat are the focus of the show's plot, which revolves around their mental instability and their naivety. There were five seasons in total of this show's run on TV. Some reviewers believe that the show paved the path for other satirical animated series like Beavis and Butthead and South Park, as well as having a vital influence in television animation. The show has received critical acclaim and gained a cult following during and after its existence. There have been numerous disputes between the show's staff and Nickelodeon's Standards and Practices department because of its sexual innuendo, violence, and off-color humor. Even though it debuted in 2003 on Spike, the adult-targeted Ren and Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon" was quickly canceled.
