Tin Man

Tin Man is a three-part miniseries co-produced by RHI Entertainment and Sci Fi Channel original films that aired on the Sci Fi Channel in the United States in 2007. The first installment aired on December 2, with the subsequent two installments airing the following nights. It was released on DVD on March 11, 2008, and was repeated in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand the following year. The miniseries, starring Zooey Deschanel, Neal McDonough, Alan Cumming, Raoul Trujillo, Kathleen Robertson, and Richard Dreyfuss, is based on the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but with science fiction and fantasy elements added. It follows the exploits of DG, a small-town waitress who is drawn into the O.Z., a mystical realm controlled by the tyrannical sorceress Azkadellia. DG sets out on a quest with her friends Glitch, Raw, and Cain to recover her memories, find her true parents, and foil Azkadellia's plan to imprison the O.Z. in endless darkness. The first portion of the miniseries, which cost $20 million to create, was the highest-rated show in its timeslot, with 6.4 million viewers; the miniseries as a whole would be the highest-rated miniseries of 2007. It received nine Emmy nominations, one of which it won, and was also nominated for a Critics' Choice Award. Critics gave it mixed reviews, with some appreciating the acting, soundtrack, and visual effects while others thought it was too dark and depressing.
